Masato Yamamura received his B.Eng and M.Eng degrees (Chemical Engineering) from Kyoto University in 1991 and 1993, and in 1998 he earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Kyoto University. His Ph.D. thesis work focused not on coating but rather on fluid flow and heat/mass transfers in hot-dry-rock geothermal reservoir. Since 1996, Masato has been a faculty member in the Department of Applied Chemistry at Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) and now is Associate Professor in the department. Masato was a visiting scholar in Skip Scriven’s group at University of Minnesota in 1999 and 2000. From 1998-2002, Masato collaborated with Prof. Adachi, former Professor in Kyutech, and worked on postponed air entrainment in suspension and jet flows.

His current research interest is on interplay between micro-structuring and drying kinetics in multicomponent thin film coatings. Masato received the outstanding paper awards from fluid & particle processing division, the society of chemical engineers Japan (SCEJ), in 2003, and from the Asian Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering in 2004. He has organized the biannual series of Japan Coating Symposium, the International workshop on process intensification, and the Japan-Korea Symposium on Materials & Interfaces.

Currently Masato is a board member of ISCST, he is also one of the vice chairs of Division of Materials & Interfaces in SCEJ. Masato also consults with more than 10 Japanese coating companies on thin film coating and drying technologies.
