Andrew Hrymak – Biography

 

Andrew Hrymak (P.Eng, FCIC, Ph. D. Chem. Eng., Carnegie Mellon University; B.Eng., Chem Eng., McMaster University) joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at McMaster University in 1985 where he is currently Professor and Chair (since 2000). Visiting professor positions include: Xerox Research Centre of Canada, UMIST Materials Science Centre and the Universite Lyon – Claude Bernard. His current research interests include modeling, design and optimization of materials processing systems, in particular mixing, polymer processing and coating flows (slot, dip and air knife coating, as well as particle dispersions), and rheology.Andy has served as Director of the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute (Acting, 2001-02, Director 2002-05), an interdisciplinary research centre that links researchers interested in a broad spectrum of manufacturing related topics (http://mmri.mcmaster.ca). He is currently Director of the School of Engineering Practice (http://msep.mcmaster.ca) , an innovative graduate school for professional engineering master’s degrees which emphasize an interdisciplinary approach to technological problems and the development of leadership skills in the areas of entrepreneurship, innovation, public policy and design.

Leadership positions in professional organizations include: Chair of the Computing and Systems Technology Division of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Chair of the Association of Canadian Chairs of Chemical Engineering, Chair of the 1999 Gordon Research Conference on Computer-aided Engineering in Polymer Processing, and Co-Chair of the 2003 Annual Meeting of the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineering. He is currently Associate Editor of Computers and Chemical Engineering and Editor-in-Chief of International Polymer Processing.
